ROUTER 101 - An Intro to Woodworking Routers

Important: This is a two session class.  All attendees MUST REGISTER FOR AND ATTEND the FIRST SESSION, which will be held in the Classroom on Tues Jan 16th @ 6:30pm.

The router table is considered to be one of the most important tools in any woodshop. This is due to it versatility of use along with its ability to make cuts precisely, accurately, and repeatably with little effort.

This class will be broken up into two sessions.

The first session, which all attendees must attend, will be held in the classroom where we will go over topics such as:

  • Definitions/Terms/Names/Purpose of Routers & Related Items
  • Explain why you'd use a router and what it can do
  • How to Safely use a Router
  • How to select the correct router bit for your purpose

The second session (Router 101-Lab Session) will give you the chance to actually get hands on experience using the router table and how to do a multitude of cuts & adjustments to the table.

Lab Session Dates Are:

  • 1/18/24 @ 6:30pm
  • 1/19/24 @7pm (Note - this session will only be open to registration should we get more than 15 people signed up for the class)
  • 1/21/24 @ 11am
  • 1/22/24 @1pm

NOTE:  If you DO NOT attend the 1/16 class, you will not be able to attend the lab session.  Refunds/Credits will not be provided should you fail to cancel your registration 5 days in advance of 1/16.

About the Instructor:

Jon Alt is a self taught tinkerer and woodworker who has focused most of his time in the woodshop building mid-century modern furniture along with various other smaller projects .

During his time as the former woodshop manager at Twin Cities Maker he particularly enjoyed time sharing his knowledge about the tools, and the safe operation of them with members.
