Get ready to rethink your wood sourcing! We're thrilled to welcome Maddy and Karl from the MN DNR to Twin Cities Maker. They'll reveal the hidden potential of urban wood – those trees removed from our city streets – and how you can use this valuable resource in your own woodworking projects.

Trees are removed for a whole host of reasons including forest health, hazard mitigation, construction, and aesthetic reasons. But… what happens to all of the trees that are removed in cities?

We call the use of all those trees that get removed for various reasons “urban wood utilization”. Currently, urban wood utilization is a field that is starting to take off here in the metro Twin Cities area to address challenges with an overflow of ash trees being removed due to Emerald Ash Borer.

MN DNR will cover what is currently happening with urban trees in the Twin Cities, highlighting a few exciting examples of organizations making strides in urban wood utilization, and then talk about opportunities for woodworkers to source local wood near their house for their next project.
