LEARN TO MAKE SPOONS in this introductory blacksmithing class! This beginner-level class will teach you how to shape, forge, and finish a functional steel spoon using traditional blacksmithing techniques. You'll gain hands-on experience with basic hammer control, forging methods, and safe shop practices in a supportive environment. By the end of the class, you'll have a handcrafted spoon and the confidence to continue exploring blacksmithing.


In this class students will learn:

  • Shop safety and proper forge operation
  • Identifying and maintaining correct forging temperatures
  • Hammer control and efficient anvil use
  • Blacksmithing terminology
  • Isolating material for the spoon bowl
  • Drawing out the handle
  • Tapering and shaping the handle
  • Spreading and forging the bowl
Bending and refining the spoon's overall shape

The below is MANDATORY to participate in the class.

  1. All cotton/natural fiber clothing
  2. Closed toe shoes/boots (NO MESH TOP SHOES)
  3. Eye protection (must be ANSI Z87.1 rated)
  4. Ear protection
