Lapidary 101 is an introductory course that will familiarize you to the lapidary equipment and techniques for working with stones.
Class Description
This is a beginner-friendly course that will teach you how to effectively use the equipment in the lapidary studio. This will cover things to look for when selecting a rock for performing lapidary work on; using templates to fit a stone to a particular shape; and the steps to cut, grind, and polish a stone to final finish. You will leave the class with a foundational knowledge of the tools available in the studio and a finished piece of stonework.

Tools Covered
You will learn skills with the slabbing saw, band saw, drill press, cabochon grinding wheel, and the grinding/polishing wheel system. You will also be skilled in using templates to create specifically shaped pieces that can later be used in jewelry settings.
What to Bring
Eyewear and an apron are recommended, but both can be provided by the studio.
