101 Beginner Spinning on a Wheel

A barebones basic introduction to spinning your own yarn on a wheel. If you have been interested in spinning your own yarns, this class will help to demystify the spinning wheel. You'll learn how to make yarn and gain the foundations to begin your spinning journey.

In addition to the class session, there is an option for a followup study group time for anyone who wants or needs it.

What You'll Learn

  • What is a spinning wheel & how does it work
  • What part did Cinderella poke her finger on?
  • Differences in the types of spinning wheel
  • Basics of fiber prep (drafting) and type
  • Basic terms pertaining to fiber, yarn construction, and types of spinning
  • Getting started on a wheel and spinning your first single
  • Carders, time allowing

What to Bring/Wear

If you've got one, a functioning spinning wheel with at least one or two bobbins. TCM has a wheel and 2 others belonging to the instructor will be available as loaners for the class. If you'd like help determing whether your wheel is ready for class, reach out to events@tcmaker.org to be put in touch with the instructor.

Avoid baggy sleeves and clothes prone to picking up lint.
